Hastings 150th Anniversary Regatta

The last time Hastings rowing club held Hastings Regatta was back in 2012. This year the club triumphantly held the regatta again in celebration of their 150th anniversary.

2018 Season Underway

The 19th and 20th of May saw Hastings and Bexhill Regattas hit the water. Brilliant Conditions and racing both days suggests this will be an exciting season.

We will meet again on the 2nd and 3rd June for the Shoreham and Brighton regatta weekend.

Re-scheduled regatta dates

So far Four regattas have been cancelled:

Shoreham, Brighton and Hove, Worthing and Worthing Town.

The following new dates have been allocated and approved:

Shoreham 29th July 2017

Brighton and Hove 30th July 2017

Worthing 22nd July 2017

Worthing Town 23rd July 2017

Hope to see you all there

1.5 regattas complete, 4 cancelled…!

The season is underway, but it’s off to a rather slow start. We should be readying to race at the sixth regatta of the season, and the half way point, at Worthing tomorrow. However, owing to yet another weekend of high winds we have completed only 1 and a half regattas so far.

Nonetheless, coastal rowing is often this way, and we’re hopeful to build some momentum after our slow start over the next two weekends at Dover on the 18th of June and Eastbourne on the 24th of June.

You can see the results so far on the League Tables page.

Regatta List

After the cancellation of the Adur Head, this year you’ll all have to wait until the Viking Shield at Folkestone on the 22nd of April to get the measure of one another. We look forward to seeing you all at the event.

Please note that the dates for Brighton and Hove, and Shoreham Regattas this year we’re originally incorrect and have been updated on this site and the downloadable list here:2017 Calendar

2017 Season is nearly here

Head of the Adur

So there are signs of spring in the air! The evenings are drawing out and it’s very nearly time to drive home from work without the headlights on! That means one thing; rowing in the evenings are nearly back. So, more boat time and also time to start preparations for the new CARA racing season.

Let’s take a look at the first event of the season, the Head of the Adur River Race. The Adur Head has long been the first opportunity to clubs get to take a look at the competition for the upcoming season, and is always a nervous time, when we see how our winter training compares to the rest. The event is due to take place on the 12th of March in Shoreham, the event poster can be seen here: Adur_Head_Poster_20175b15d

I look forward to seeing you all there, best of luck with the training!

Deal Double Weekend

Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown rowing club held two regattas on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of July. The weather provided some really exciting racing conditions and some really close finishes.

The weekend belonged to the home club, despite some impressive wins from Bexhill’s Men and Shoreham’s strength in the ladies events, Deal put together a real team effort for their home event and as such they took wins and podium finishes in many races, however their most impressive performances were when sculling where they took J16 Boys, Novice men, Junior men and Senior men’s victories.

Many championships events were decided this weekend, as the halfway point of the racing season was passed. Check the results pages for more info and individual regatta event pages for write ups.

News from 2016 Season Weekend #3

Weekend #3 – 28/29th of May 2016 – Shoreham and Brighton Regattas

Both Shoreham Regatta on Saturday and Brighton Regatta on Sunday saw northerly winds blowing strongly making conditions a little windy on the beach but flat and calm close to the shoreline.

With all clubs except Hastings in attendance, it was this season’s big three who took the the glory, with Bexhill, Deal and Shoreham winning all of the races over both days between them. While great results for the three clubs involved we hope that in the future we can see more clubs moving forwards and developing to take their share of the wins.

As has been the case on the previous 2 racing weekends, many races were won comfortably. However there were some notable moments of excitement and close racing – none more so than in the Senior Sculls race Between Deal’s Will Dennis and Bexhill’s Mark Mitchell at Brighton Regatta where the lead changed hands on many occasions and the result was decided in the last strokes of the race, with victory going to Mitchell by less than a foot, this takes the Championship to 3-2 in favour of Dennis. Other close races included the Men’s Junior Four which was won on both days by a small margin by Shoreham moving them into a 3-2 overall championship lead – we look forward to more close racing in this category in the coming weeks!

Bexhill’s 12 victories would normally have been impressive, however this paled next to the home club Shoreham’s extraordinary 21 wins over the two regattas. Nonetheless it is still Bexhill who lead the way in the League, while Shoreham are in control of the Grand Aggregate race.

News from 2016 Season Weekend #2

Weekend #2 – 21/22nd of May 2016 – Hastings and Bexhill Regattas

Sadly, high winds on Friday night and Saturday morning meant Hastings regatta was called off. However the weather calmed over Saturday night and Sunday’s regatta at Bexhill went ahead on rough but certainly row-able water.
It was well organised day with strong performances in the bumpy water from the home club, and also from Deal and Shoreham. It was Bexhill who took the Grand Aggregate on the day, the result of a strong team effort and a lot of crews on the water placing well. Deal put in a strong performance to take the Junior Aggregate and the Novice Aggregate, while Shoreham wont the Ladies Aggregate. It was Shoreham who took the most race wins and maintained their lead in the race for the CARA Grand; they took 8 victories in all, including winning every ladies status race held. Folkestone were the only other club to win a race, taking victory in the V50 Four. Full results are live on the events page: here

Racing Season is under-way!

It’s that time of year again, and the coastal racing season is upon us! It’s time to put all that winter training into practise, and time to celebrate all that is great about coastal rowing. We’re all excited about the season ahead  – and let’s hope  we get as many regattas in the sun as possible.

Regatta results should be updated as soon as possible after each race or race day, so make sure you check the website regularly throughout the season.

Good luck to all clubs racing!
