Viking Shield Regatta @ Deal

The Viking Shield regatta 2015 was held at Deal on the 11th of April. The Viking Shield regatta is always used as a benchmark for CARA clubs; a great way to check out the competition before the league season gets underway in May. This year however, Wind, rain and overcast skies may have been contributing factors in what was a lower than usual turn out to a CARA regatta. Nonetheless, there was some great racing and good promise shown for many crews for the season ahead.

The Viking Shield itself remains with Deal, after a convincing victory over other Kent entrants Herne Bay in the second race of the day, the Men’s Senior Pairs.

Notable victories of the day were those for Deal in the Men’s senior events, dominated in recent years by Bexhill, perhaps the tides could be changing… Deal also dominated in the J/S and Junior men’s events. Usual service was resumed however by Shoreham’s Senior ladies, with convincing victories in both their events.
