Season well under way

With four regattas down, the CARA season is well underway but there’s still everything to play for. We’ve had some great racing so far with some fairly coastal conditions – testing crews mettle against the waves early on in the season.

Most of the events are still wide open, none more so than the Ladies’ Double Sculls, which for the first year is a grand aggregate event and proving extremely popular. Attracting a large entry of crews at each regatta, after 3 races (the first called off due to adverse weather) it is extremely tight at the top of the table with Dover, Shoreham and Bexhill all battling it out for the win.

It so far also looks like there might be a shift in dominance in the men’s single sculls event, with Will Dennis from Deal taking the win from Bexhill’s long-time sculls champion Mark Mitchell in the first regatta. Now with Mark out of action (we wish him a speedy recovery) can anyone oppose Will?

Deal Rowing Club are so far dominating the Grand Aggregate, with consistent performances and wins from both mens and womens crews across the range of events. But with eight more regattas left to race there is still time for other clubs to step up and challenge them.

It’s shaping up to be an exciting season!
