About

CARA – the Coast Amateur Rowing Association was foundered 1893 and has been administering coastal rowing in the South East of England ever since. Originally CARA was responsible for all coastal clubs from Herne Bay in Kent to Weymouth in Dorset. After 10 years of open competition between around 20 clubs it was agreed that a split; separating the clubs from Sussex and Kent from those in Hampshire and Dorset; be made to reduce travel distances for competitors. In making this split HDARA – Hampshire and Dorset Amateur Rowing Association, was created.
